CSIP Better Commissioning programme
Welcome to the CSIP Better Commissioning website.
CSIP's Commissioning Programme has 3 key strands of activity;
- The National Programme headed by Janet Crampton
- The Better Commissioning Learning Improvement Network
- Regional Commissioning Programmes
We work with commissioners across health and care to develop commissioning as a transformational process to meet the new demands of the health and care system. We do this by;
- providing learning opportunities for commissioners at regional and national level to develop skills and capabilities
- developing tools and resources to support policy implementation and best practice in commissioning
- working across a number of government departments and in partnership with other agencies to ensure collaborative approaches to implementation.

Better commissioning Learning Improvement Network (LIN)
CSIP co-ordinates an electronic network of commissioners across the country, helping them keep in contact and learn from each other. The LIN is based on the principles set out in the Building capacity and partnerships in care agreement, and puts these into practice by:
- identifying and sharing examples of what works, in terms of good commissioning practices, at local level
- promoting the development of a whole systems approach to service and capacity planning in which independent sector providers are fully engaged as active participants
- supporting and helping the development of better local arrangements, including closer working with the independent sector to improve commissioning.
Anyone can become a member of the Better Commissioning LIN. Register now to receive news of conferences, resources and other activity.
There are commissioning leads in nine CSIP regions to help improve commissioning competence at local level through learning events and projects, and oversee the development of better commissioning practice.
Each region has its own website where you'll find details of work programmes and initiatives in the context of key challenges locally. There are regional development opportunities available for commissioners and stakeholders in health and social care and the third sector.

CSIP's Physical and Sensory Impairment (PSI) has developed an action planning workbook for strategic commissioning services for people with physical and/or sensory impairment.
